The City of North Miami will Offer Residents the Pfizer Vaccine due to new CDC and FDA Recommendation

North Miami, FL – April 13, 2021

The City of North Miami will pause all Johnson & Johnson vaccine distribution as recommended by the CDC and FDA. The City of North Miami will now offer 600 Pfizer vaccine doses to residents who had previously scheduled an appointment for the vaccination event happening on Sunday, April 18th, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Griffing Community Center (located at 12220 Griffing Blvd., North Miami, FL 33161).

This District 3 community vaccination site will be sponsored by Councilwoman Estimé-Irvin in collaboration with State Representative Christopher Benjamin, State Representative Dotie Joseph, Holy Family Catholic Church, Florida Department of Emergency Management and Florida Department of Health.

The CDC and FDA are currently reviewing data involving six reported U.S. cases of a rare and severe type of blood clot in individuals after receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The CDC will convene a meeting of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) on Wednesday, April 14th, to further review these cases and assess their potential significance. The FDA will review that analysis and it will also investigate these individual cases. Until that process is complete, both organizations have recommended a pause in the use of this vaccine.

All residents who receive the Pfizer vaccine will be automatically scheduled for their second dose on May 9th. Vaccines will be free of charge and available for residents who are 18 years of age and older in accordance with the Governor’s Executive Order Number 21-79. Upon arrival, residents must show proof of Florida residency (for example: monthly mortgage statement, utility bill, etc.) and a valid driver’s license. For additional information regarding the Covid-19 vaccine, visit https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus.
