North Miami Celebrates Florida Government Week: October 19 to 25, 2020

October 15, 2020

Hosted by District 3 Councilwoman, Mary Estimé-Irvin, North Miami will be joining cities throughout the state in celebrating Florida City Government Week, from October 19th – 25th. With social distancing in mind, most of the city of North Miami’s 2020 Florida City Government Week Celebration will take place virtually, while still showcasing the inner workings of the City, a behind the scene look at its operations and a platform to connect with elected officials and staff.

Highlights of this year’s event line-up are the Brunch Edition of Virtual Talks With Councilwoman, which will feature Estimé-Irvin live on Zoom preparing and exchanging brunch recipes with state and local elected officials, while discussing legislation and programs impacting North Miami. Featured elected officials include State Representative Elect Christopher Benjamin, State Senator Jason Pizzo, and North Miami Councilman Alix Desulme, Ed.D.

The week’s festivities will also include the activation of the 2020-2021 North Miami Youth Council, an initiative led by Estimé-Irvin. Estimé-Irvin will present her inaugural State of District 3 Address virtually. The Councilwoman will also host a virtual Business Luncheon, targeting businesses along the West Dixie Highway and NE 6th Avenue corridors. The luncheon’s keynote address will be given by Rasha Cameau-Soray, Executive Director of the North Miami Community Redevelopment Agency. Events are free of charge.

“When you compare city government to state and federal government, it is easily observed that local governing bodies, like North Miami, have the most direct impact on the daily lives of our residents,” said Estimé-Irvin. “I invite residents to take advantage of this week as an opportunity to understand how the City of North Miami operates, the services it provides, and the importance of being an active and engaged resident.”

Florida City Government Week, sponsored by the Florida League of Cities, is a week-long celebration that raises awareness about the importance of municipal government and its daily impact on residents. The League is the official organization of the municipal governments in Florida.
