Service disconnection moratorium for non-payment of water and sewer services lifted

Use the calculator to find out your payments and payment plan end date

As South Florida and the nation continue to return to pre-COVID-19 activities and procedures, the moratorium on disconnections of water service for non-payment and the application of late fees, which was implemented in March 2020, has been suspended as of October 1, 2021.

The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) has created payment plans designed with customers in mind to help residents pay their current bill cycle while catching up on previous owed amounts. Affected customers will be automatically enrolled into a payment plan, and will pay a specific amount on each bill based on what they owe for past service. For example, for customers who owe less than $300 – about half of all customers in arrears – the minimum monthly payment on their plan will be  between $5 and $17. Customers will be enrolled in 18, 24 or 30- month payment plans depending on the amount owed.

Customers who have been enrolled in the payment plans will receive a letter from the department informing them of their amount owed as of October 1st. Customers who can access their bills online can log in to view their specific payment plan and duration. Customers can also use the online payment plan calculator by inputting their owed amount to determine their customized payment amount and plan duration.

Financial support for those behind on their water bills is now available through the statewide OUR Florida program, and the Water and Sewer Department is committed to connecting all eligible customers with available assistance. Water and Sewer staff will be contacting every customer in arrears to connect customers to financial support available through OUR Florida. The program helps with past due rental or utility bill balances and for up to three months of future payments not to exceed 15 months of total assistance. For more information or to apply, please go to www.ourflorida.com or call 1-833-493-0594. OUR Florida is overseen by the Florida Department of Children and Families and funded by the federal Emergency Rental Assistance Program.
