Take part in the spay/neuter event

With approximately 300,000 to 400,000 free roaming cats in in Miami-Dade County, you can look in any neighborhood and find a family of free roaming community cats living nearby.

Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department invites you to bring your neighborhood stray cats to a free Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) Marathon happening Feb.17-18 at the Pets Thrive in 305 Community Cat Center located at 10700 SW 211 St, Cutler Bay, FL 33189.

Residents can drop off the cats for services starting Friday, Feb. 17 at 7 a.m. through noon Saturday, Feb. 18. There is no appointment needed as all cats will be received on a walk-in basis.

Cats that are brought in will be sterilized, vaccinated for rabies and given a booster FRCPC (Feline Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia and Chlamydophila) vaccination. The cats that receive services will be marked with an ear tip to easily identify that they have been sterilized. All cats must be picked up on Saturday, Feb. 18 from 4 to 6 p.m., and returned to their feline families in their neighborhood of origin.

The free TNVR services are only available for Miami-Dade County free roaming community cats presented by Miami-Dade County residents.

The TNVR program is a national recognized, effective and humane way to stabilize the cat population that provides free spay or neuter surgeries for free roaming stray cats referred to as community cats. The program involves humanely trapping community cats from their street colony, transporting them to an Animal Services clinic or participating veterinarian for sterilization, vaccination and ear tip marking after which the cats are returned to the area they were picked up.

The vaccines are being sponsored through a generous grant from the Petco Love Foundation.

The free TNVR program is also offered year-round at the Community Cat Center.
