West Palm Beach City Commission Meeting and Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Approvals and Decisions

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (02-07-23) – Below is a summary of the approvals and decisions made by the City Commission meeting on Monday, February 6, 2023.

MAYOR’S OFFICE – Presented a proclamation declaring the week of February 11-17, 2023 as 211 Awareness Week.

Mayor Keith A. James presented a proclamation naming February 11-17 as 211 Awareness Week to
Sharon L’Herrou, president and CEO of 211 Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast.

Approved an ordinance, after a second public hearing, to rename a one-block portion of Iris Street to Alexander W. Dreyfoos Way. The one-block section is between South Tamarind Avenue and South Sapodilla Avenue and separates the Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts and the Raymond F. Kravis Center.

COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY (CRA) – Approved an interlocal agreement to fund consulting services for the redevelopment of the Banyan Parking Garage study.

DEVELOPMENT SERVICES – Approved a resolution to appropriate $250,000 from the ArtLife WPB Capital Project Fund Reserves to fund the “Portals” public art project by Fred Eversley at One Flagler; approved a resolution amending the restrictive covenant between SHP VI Datura West Palm Owner LLC and he City for property located at 445 Datura Street; approved a resolution approving an up-to-10-year Historic Ad Valorem Tax Exemption for property 3215 Vincent Road.

ENGINEERING – Approved two resolutions to submit two applications for a U.S. Department of Transportation Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant for $8.1 million to fund roadway, sidewalk and stormwater improvement projects in Carver, Twin Lakes and Roosevelt Estates neighborhoods and a second application for $2.2 million to fund pre-construction and planning for the North Tamarind Corridor Revitalization Planning Project.

HOUSING and COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT – Approved an ordinance, after a second public hearing, approving the sale of surplus property at 8111 South Dixie Highway to Woodfield-Flagler Venture, LLC; approved an ordinance on first reading after a public hearing, authorizing the sale of a 25-foot strip portion of 500 Clematis Street to NL 512 LLC and approving the sale of a portion of 500 Clematis Street for workforce housing.

POLICE DEPARTMENT – Approved two resolutions accepting a donation of $35,500 from the Fund for West Palm Beach Police for the replacement of narcotics detection canine, adding an explosives detection canine along with vehicle uplifting for the dogs and a second resolution appropriating the funds.

Community Redevelopment Agency decisions and approvals

Below is a summary of the approvals and decisions made by the Community Redevelopment Agency meeting on Monday, February 6, 2023.

Approved a resolution creating a Tax Increment Financing incentive with NL 512 LLC for construction of workforce housing at 512 Clematis Street.

Approved a resolution for construction of a mixed-use building at 800 N. Tamarind Avenue, authorizing a purchase and sale agreement with Rose Trolley, LLC and authorizing the engagement of professional services for the design of the building.

Approved a resolution approving an interlocal funding agreement between the West Palm Beach CRA and the City of West Palm Beach for funding Phase 1 of the City’s Banyan Parking Garage Redevelopment study.
