North Miami Resident Celebrates 106 Remarkable Years

NORTH MIAMI, FL (May 19, 2025)

Surrounded by family, friends, and city leaders, Astoud Georges Benjamin—affectionately known as “Papa”—was honored today during a celebration marking his 106th birthday at the Griffing Community Center in North Miami. This has become an annual celebration since “Papa” turned 100 years old.

The joyful occasion recognized Papa’s deep roots in the community. A proud North Miami resident of 23 years, Papa is officially older than the City he calls home, which celebrated its 99th anniversary this year.

The Golden Silver Seniors program hosted the celebration, which began with a welcome gathering at 11 a.m., followed by remarks from North Miami Councilwoman Mary Estimé-Irvin, District 3. Attendees then gathered outside for a demonstration by the North Miami Police Department.

“It’s not every day that we get to honor someone who has witnessed over a century of change and growth, both in our community and beyond,” said Councilwoman Estimé-Irvin, District 3. “Papa’s life is a testimony of history, strength, and legacy.”

This milestone event underscored the City’s ongoing commitment to celebrating the lives and contributions of its eldest residents.
