NORTH MIAMI, FL (Wednesday, August 19, 2026)
The City of North Miami will host a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, August 20, 2026, marking the start of a major infrastructure improvement with the replacement of the NE 131st Street Pedestrian Bridge in District 3.
The ceremony will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. along NE 131st Street between NE 2nd Avenue and Memorial Highway, spanning the South Florida Water Management District C-8 Canal. Attendees should meet on the west side of the pedestrian bridge along NE 2nd Avenue.
The project will replace the existing 80-year-old NE 131st Street pedestrian bridge. Located in District 3, the project is currently in progress and has an estimated completion date of May 2027.
“This groundbreaking represents another important investment in North Miami’s infrastructure and in the future of our community,” said Mayor Alix Desulme, Ed.D. “For 80 years, this bridge has been part of our city, and today, we are taking an important step toward its replacement. We remain committed to investing in projects that strengthen our neighborhoods and improve the quality of life for our residents.”
The project represents a significant infrastructure investment in District 3, with $1.185 million in federal and state funding dedicated to the bridge replacement.
“For District 3, this project is an important investment in the infrastructure that directly serves our residents,” said Councilwoman Mary Estimé-Irvin. “Replacing this bridge in our community is a meaningful improvement, and I am proud to see this project moving forward. This investment demonstrates our continued commitment to addressing the needs of District 3 and ensuring our neighborhood infrastructure is positioned to serve residents for generations to come.”
