Bike305 Ride of Silence

BIKE305 hosts its 23rd Annual Ride of Silence on Wednesday, May 21 at 6 p.m. at Crandon Park Marina parking lot, located at 4000 Crandon Boulevard, in Key Biscayne, FL. Ride of Silence is held each year in May as part of National Bike Month.

This is a 9-mile group ride, conducted completely in silence and led by Key Biscayne and Miami-Dade County Sheriff police escorts, engages cyclists to ride in support and solidarity with others around the world in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. There will be a 4.5 mile, one-lap option for those choosing a shorter distance.

Cyclists of all levels and abilities are encouraged to come and hear about recent and future safety improvements on the Rickenbacker Causeway and throughout Miami-Dade County, under the Vision Zero initiative supported by Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. The County’s Vision Zero initiative is part of a global movement aimed at reducing fatalities on roadways to zero through cycling and pedestrian improvements. The event is free and registration is not required. Cyclists should arrive at 6 p.m. There will be remarks by County leaders and family members of recently deceased cyclists at 6:40 p.m., followed by the bike ride at 7 p.m.

As part of its Parks and Open Space System Master Plan, Miami-Dade County Parks Department is building a connected park system of 550+ miles of greenways/trails, with trail projects like The Underline, the Ludlam Trail, and the Biscayne-Everglades Greenway, among others, to improve the off-road cycling network. This effort aims to provide safe passage for pedestrians and cyclists traveling to parks, schools, beaches, business centers and public transportation hubs, in keeping with its core competency pillar of Placemaking and Design Excellence.
