COVID-19 June Survey – Deadline July 22nd

Dear Colleagues,

The COVID-19 Survey of Impact on Miami-Dade County’s Cultural Community (CO-SIC) for June is now open. Through this monthly survey of the impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on the arts, the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs has documented a total financial impact of $59.5 million with more than 9,200 arts and cultural jobs affected, from March through May.

JUNE SURVEY DEADLINE: Wednesday, July 22, 2020 (include data only from June 1-30, 2020)

RESPOND TO THE JUNE SURVEY HERE.

Your participation in this monthly survey has helped the Department collect the reliable information necessary to accurately report on the devastating job losses and sharp decline in earned and contributed revenues that nonprofit cultural organizations are experiencing as the COVID-19 health crisis continues.  View the March – May survey results here.

We have been sharing the survey results with local, state and national funders, media, and public and private sector leaders to raise awareness of the urgent need for support for the nonprofit arts sector and will continue to keep our partners informed of the dire need for Coronavirus relief for artists and nonprofit cultural organizations.

To complete the June survey, you will need your organization’s completed  CO-FIT Tracker for the month of June (include only information from June 1 – 30th) and a list of COVID-19 recovery support opportunities that you have applied for/received. Please refer to the  Frequently Asked Questions  or contact your grants program administrator directly with questions. You can find a  staff directory here.

MICHAEL, WHAT SHOULD WE DO TO PREPARE TO REOPEN?

Many of you have reached out to ask how best to prepare for reopening. It is important to note that ALL cultural activities are suspended until the Emergency Orders issued due to the COVID-19 pandemic are lifted, with the exception of nonprofit museums and public gardens. Youth summer camp activities continue under the strict safety requirements including masks and proper social distancing. Currently, there is a 10 pm countywide curfew. The Emergency Orders issued by Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez remain in effect until lifted. Stay informed here: http://www.miamidade.gov/coronavirus.

Cultural institutions and arts groups interested in beginning to prepare and plan for future reopening should review the Arts and Culture section of  The New Normal guidelines.  Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Mayor Carlos Gimenez is aware of the impact to your organizations being documented by these surveys. His recommendation to renew full funding in FY 2020-2021 for the Department’s grants programs is evidence that he and the County Commission understand how essential your survival and work are to our community.

Please know that the staff and I are here to help as best we can. We are impressed by your imaginative approaches to serving audiences through such strategies as virtual programming and inspired by your tenacity and resourcefulness in the midst of this unprecedented crisis.

Stay safe!

Michael Spring
Senior Advisor to Miami-Dade County Office of the Mayor and
Director, Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs
