May is Haitian Heritage Month

In honor of Haitian Heritage month in May, there will be art exhibits, author panels, entertainment, book fairs, storytelling and other activities for you to enjoy.

  • Tuesday, May 4
    6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
    Haitian Heritage Celebration at the Perez Art Museum Miami
    Enjoy a live DJ celebrating the diverse music of Haiti including rara, Creole hip-hop, compa and afrobeat. There will be a flag display sharing the history of the Haitian flag and much more.

    Little Haiti Book Fair Festival

    The Miami Book Fair and Sosyete Koukouy present the Little Haiti Book Festival featuring authors from Haiti and the Haitian diaspora, workshops for writers, storytelling and hands-on activities for children, dance and music performances, Haitian comedy, a community meet and greet with some of Little Haiti’s award-winning VIP guests and community leaders and more.

    5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
    Haitian Heritage Month Celebration
    Golden Glades Library Branch

    Children will enjoy interactive storytime narratives while learning about Haitian music and art. Marvel at the work of local Haitian artist Mecca “Grimo” Marcelin as he recites cultural poetry.
    • Learn to speak Haitian Creole May 6 and May 20. Registration is required.

    8 p.m.
    Haitian Flag Day Concert
    Celebrate Haiti’s rich cultural traditions with a sizzling lineup of Haitian musicians and local DJ’s at the Haitian Flag Day Concert.
  • Saturday, May 20 
    4 p.m.

    Don’t miss the 25th Anniversary Haitian Compas Festival, where Haitian music, dance, food and art meld together for an immersive cultural experience at Bayfront Park in Downtown Miami. Enjoy performances by popular Haitian and Haitian-American musicians and artists, including KAÏ, Nu Look, T-Vice, Kodak Black and more.
  • Visit the Haitian Heritage Museum
