Mayor and City Commission Approvals and Decisions for Monday, July 24, 2023

West Palm Beach City Commission Meeting and Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Approvals and Decisions

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (DATE) – Below is a summary of the approvals and decisions made by the City Commission meeting on Monday, July 24, 2023.

CITY ATTORNEY – Approved an ordinance after a first public hearing amending the City Code providing for repeal of an ordinance that was in conflict with newly-adopted state laws governing landlord-tenant notification.

CITY COMMISSION – Unanimously approved a motion by Commissioner Cathleen Ward, seconded by Commissioner Christy Fox, to terminate the procurement process with City Harbor and terminate discussions for a downtown marina.

DEVELOPMENT SERVICES – Approved an ordinance after first reading to amend the City Code to add cultural facilities as an eligible use for a parking waiver within the Community Service Planned Development District; continued a public hearing and second reading of an ordinance to November 13, 2023 to designate and place the Florida Public Utilities Company building on the West Palm Beach Register of Historic Places; approved an ordinance on first reading after a public hearing to rezone a portion of land at Dreher Park from Recreation and Open Space to Community Service, also approved an ordinance after first public hearing to rezone land in Dreher Park from Community Service to Community Service Planned Development and approved a resolution, with conditions, for the Cox Science Center and Aquarium Community Service Planned Development and granted waivers to the Zoning and Land Development regulations; approved a resolution after public hearing to abandon a 12,596-square -foot portion of Gruber Place right-of-way for Palm Beach Atlantic University; approved a resolution after public hearing for a major amendment to the Palm Beach Atlantic University Community Service Planned Development amending the master plan to provide for a six-story School of Business building.

HOUSING and COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT – Approved a resolution approving the development concept plan for the Woodfield Venture, LLC, project at 8111 South Dixie Highway.

PARKS and RECREATION – Approved a resolution accepting a Flooding and Sea Level Rise Resiliency Grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for $1.875 million for improvements to the drainage system and to other improvements to decrease the threat of flooding at Currie Park.

PUBLIC UTILITIES – Approved a resolution appropriating $955,156 in Public Utilities funds for contribution to the East Central Regional Reclamation Facility operating expenses.
