Mayor Announces New ‘Highlighting Heritage’ Initiative

 City Commissioners to Nominate Recipients

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – Today, Mayor Keith A. James announced his plan to recognize individuals during two separate month-long heritage celebrations. The Mayor and each of the five City Commissioners will honor a resident who is playing a vital role in serving and improving West Palm Beach.

“This is an opportunity to expand the recognition of our outstanding residents across the City and by including the City Commissioners to participate during these heritage months celebrations, so many more deserving residents will get the recognition they deserve. This new initiative will allow our City Commissioners to select difference makers whose contributions uplift our City and adds to its greatness,” Mayor Keith A. James said.

The newly expanded ‘highlighting heritage’ initiative will be held during Black History month in February and Hispanic Heritage month in September.  As February is Black History month, each City Commissioner will select and honor one African American (non-city employee) who will be recognized at the Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023 City Commission meeting at City Hall. As part of this new initiative, each City Commissioner will present their honoree, read the acknowledgement into the record and be photographed. In addition to the public recognition, each recipient will eventually receive a special commemorative City heritage pin.

Should you have questions or would like to learn more about this special ‘highlighting heritage’ proclamation program, please contact the Mayor’s Office at 561-822-1400.
