Miami Emerging Arts Leaders – Emerging Perspectives: The Role of Art in Public Places in Miami-Dade County

Virtual Event via Zoom

Did you know that Miami-Dade County is home to one of the largest public art collections in the United States? Join the Miami Emerging Arts Leaders and Amanda Sanfilippo Long, Curator and Artist Manager for the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs’ Art in Public Places (APP) program for a “behind the scenes look.” A public art expert and rising curatorial star, Amanda also manages the South Florida Cultural Consortium Grants Program for Visual and Media Artists and helps to guide the work of the Art in Public Places Trust. Prior to joining the Department of Cultural Affairs in 2016, Amanda held positions at Locust Projects, Miami; Creative Time, New York; the BCA Center, Vermont; and, The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. She is the former Director and Chief Curator of Fringe Projects in Miami. Amanda holds an MA in Contemporary Art History from the Sotheby’s Institute of Art, London in conjunction with the University of Manchester.

Established in 1973, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places program, one of the first public art programs in the United States. Art is present in our everyday lives – in our parks, libraries, transit stations, even the airport! All are welcome as Amanda highlights some of the landmark public art works in every corner of the County.
