Sandi, the world’s only 35-foot-tall, 700-ton holiday sand tree
WHAT: Starting in the early morning hours on Monday, November 7, 800 tons of sand will start to arrive to the West Palm Beach Waterfront over the course of several days.
Notable Items:
700 tons will be used to create Sandi, the holiday sand tree that has become one of South Florida’s most famous and beloved holiday celebrations.
- 8-10 daily truckloads are expected.
- As with every year,the star ofthe City of West Palm Beach’s Holiday in Paradise (HIP) is returning with anewseasonal theme and elements.
- Announced Friday morning, Sandi’s 11th annual return will feature a visit from “Ferris” – a Ferris wheel. Guests of the month-long holiday celebration can now see Sandi shows from an aerial view.
- The sand delivery marks the start of preparing Sandi for the Clematis by Night Holiday Tree Lighting on Thursday, December 1 from 6 to 10 p.m.
VISUALS: Media are invited to capture visuals of dump trucks delivering the sand throughout the week. 8 – 10 trucks will arrive daily, making the biggest sand pile ever seen!
WHERE: Great Lawn, 100 N Clematis Street.
WHEN: Mornings of the following dates
- Monday, November 7
- Tuesday, November 8
- Wednesday, November 9
- Thursday, November 10
- **activity on the lawn to start around 5 a.m. (ramp for the trucks over the Great Lawn to be built around 5 a.m.; trucks anticipated to arrive between 6 – 7 a.m.
WHY: Since her debut in 2012, Sandi has received numerous international and regional awards and accolades, including “Best New Event” and “Best Event within an Existing Festival” by the International Festivals and Events Association, “Most Innovative Project” by the Florida Festivals and Events Association and a Henry Award from VISIT FLORIDA. HIP was recognized in 2021 as the USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice for “Best Public Holiday Lights Display.” Sandi has been featured in/on The Huffington Post, Thrillist, CNN, Martha Stewart, Travel + Leisure, and The Ellen Show.
