CULTURAL UPDATE – CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)

Dear Colleagues,

We want you to know that the team at the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs is here and available to help you. As uncertainty and anxiety mount regarding COVID-19, we want you to be certain and reassured that we are working on strategies and solutions to help address the health of our cultural life.

Next week we plan to e-distribute a financial tracking tool to help you account for your revenue losses and additional expenses attributable to COVID-19. The financial log will enable you to more easily respond to a survey that later, we will send to collect this financial data. Please be assured that we already are making the case about the impact of COVID-19 on your work. This financial information will be used to help substantiate and reinforce the urgent need for recovery resources. And depending on the duration of this health crisis, we may ask you for this information periodically in installments.

In the meantime, the Chair of the Cultural Affairs Council, Xavier Cortada, wanted me to convey this message to you:

“You have my promise that our Council will work harder than ever to advocate for the survival of our amazing cultural life. Now more than ever, the arts represent the spirit of our community and the hope for our future. Every artist and every non-profit cultural organization are essential to making Miami-Dade County one of the most extraordinary places to live, raise families and pursue our dreams. I am confident that together, we have the will, imagination and resiliency to get through this unprecedented moment in our lives and continue to create great art for a place that deserves nothing less.”

Stay tuned and stay safe and healthy.

The most reliable way to contact us continues to be through email. You can find a staff directory at https://www.miamidadearts.org/about/staff-councils.

Please check the County’s web site for more COVID-19 information and for regular updates: miamidade.gov/coronavirus.
