Miami-Dade’s unemployment rate remains low

Mayor Daniella Levine Cava proudly announces that Miami-Dade County continues to have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the state of Florida and the nation with only a 2.2 percent unemployment level, down from 2.5 percent just one year ago.

Miami’s private sector job market has experienced a 4.1 percent increase, with 45,400 jobs added in May 2023 alone. According to a release from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, “the Miami metro area gained the third-highest number of private sector jobs over the year in May 2023 among all metro areas,” with 15,300 jobs in education and health services, and 12,700 jobs in professional and business services. In comparison, Florida’s private sector employment increased by 3.9 percent, faster than the nation’s private sector job growth rate of 2.7 percent.

This steady increase has kept Miami-Dade among the lowest unemployment in the state, compared to other counties such as Broward, Orange and Hillsborough with a 2.6 percent unemployment rate each, and Palm Beach County with 2.7 percent. A detailed map with unemployment rates by county can be found at Florida Insight.
