Miami-Dade Arts Support (MAS) Program Guidelines and Workshops Available

The new Miami-Dade Arts Support (MAS) Program is wholly funded by the federal CARES Act and aims to provide financial assistance to arts and cultural organizations and artists-entrepreneurs to help them survive the COVID-19 pandemic. The Department is hosting a series of webinars for cultural organizations to learn the application and submission process. MBVCA
FY 2020/2021 MBVCA Tourism Advancement Program – First Period Deadlines

The Miami Beach Visitor And Convention Authority (MBVCA) is currently accepting grant applications for special events, promotions, activities and festivals which will stimulate tourism by increasing hotel occupancy and will have significant media impact for Miami Beach between October 1, 2020 and January 31, 2021 in the following categories: Development Opportunities, Major One Time Special Event, Special Events Recurring, Special Projects, Special Projects Recurring, and Tourism Partnerships.

Interested applicants must meet with MBVCA Administration by Friday, August 28, 2020 and submit the following:
• Project information and required grant criteria must for review by Friday, September 4, 2020 by 3:00 p.m.,
• Draft application and application attachments by Friday, September 11, 2020 by 3:00 p.m.,
• Final completed application is due to the MBVCA offices by Monday, September 21, 2020 by 12:00 pm.

COVID-19 Relief for Artists
Round Two: Apply by August 26, 2020

The Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs is activating round two of the Miami-Dade Artists Support! (MÁS!) Program, specifically for artists. The program provides up to a maximum of $500 per artist, available to artists of all disciplines, artist-entrepreneurs and cultural “gig” workers who have been negatively impacted by COVID-19. Knight New Work 2020: Miami applications are open
Deadline September 7, 2020

As the global pandemic disrupts the means of experiencing the arts in person, artists are responding by creating innovative artworks and ways to experience them. To recognize, support and accelerate this creative virtuosity, Knight New Work 2020 will provide up to $500,000 to support Miami-area artists in developing groundbreaking art that reimagines how the performing arts are created and experienced.

Knight New Work 2020 is a two-part open call. In the first round, 15 to 20 artists and arts organizations will each receive $10,000 to develop new performing art works in the worlds of dance, music and theater that reflect and respond to the incredible times we are living in. Along with funding, the winners will receive mentorship from established artists and be connected to their peers to advance their work.

In the second round, a small group of the projects will be selected to receive further funding to fully produce and perform their finished work by the end of 2021. Click here to apply.

Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places

Virgin Trains USA West Aventura Station

Eligibility: Open to professional visual artists or artist-led teams based in South Florida

Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs through its Art in Public Places Program and Miami-Dade County Department Transportation and Public Works request qualifications from professional artists and/or artist teams to commission artworks for the Phase I of the new Virgin Trains USA West Aventura Station – Phase I. The selected artist(s) will design unique artwork(s) that will contribute to the identity of this facility and engage employees, visitors, and passers-by in unexpected and delightful ways. Eligibility: Open to professional visual artists or artist-led teams based in South Florida

Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs through its Art in Public Places Program and Miami-Dade County Department of Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces (PROS) request qualifications from professional artists and/or artist teams to commission artworks for the new Amelia Earhart Park & Community Center. Design teams include Civica Architecture and Bermello Ajamil Architects. It is envisioned that artworks may reference the flight path, maps, or related imagery compassing of Amelia Earhart’s historic journey around the world. Click here to apply.

Eligibility: Open to professional visual artists based in South Florida

Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs through its Art in Public Places Program and Miami-Dade County, PortMiami and Virgin Voyages request qualifications for artists to be considered to make full proposals for the new Terminal V at PortMiami. Opportunities for public art include a large-scale text-based artwork application to exterior north wall, a suspended lighting feature, integrated sculptural wall applications, and free-standing artist designed-planters for the terminal’s interior and exterior. The City of Coral Gables requests qualifications from professional working artists for consideration to create identifying artwork for the City’s new Parking Garage 7, adjacent to the newly constructed Public Safety Building.  Light-based artwork is sought that is noticed from a distance and identifies the site of the Public Safety Building and Fire Station as one of safety, refuge, and care. Adrienne Arsht Center
Heart of Art online commissioning project – Submit by August 21, 2020

The Arsht Center’s Heart of Art online commissioning program in Miami-Dade County was created to inspire new work in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Using video as the virtual stage, 30 Miami-based performing artists will each be awarded $1,000 to create new works of dance, music, theater, spoken word and other performing arts that capture our community’s unique voice and experience during this unprecedented crisis. The new video works will be showcased on the Arsht Center’s website and promoted across the Center’s social media platforms and in the Arsht@Home e-newsletter. Artists working across all genres of the performing arts are encouraged to apply, including music, theater, dance, spoken word, monologues or multi-genre combinations.  Heart of Art is intended to create an artistic time capsule of Miami’s pandemic experience, the program is open exclusively to artists who reside in Miami-Dade County. The work must represent the Miami experience and address the subject of “art in the time of coronavirus” through the artist’s creative lens. South Florida Cultural Consortium (SFCC) Grant
Application Deadline October 19, 2020

The South Florida Cultural Consortium Grant Program offers the largest regional, government-sponsored artists’ grants in the United States, awarding $15,000 and $7,500 grants to resident visual and media artists from the counties of Broward, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach. Since it was established in 1988, the Consortium has awarded over to $4 million in grants to over 300 artists. In addition to receiving the grant, the artists take part in an exhibition hosted and organized by a visual arts institution in one of the five counties.

SFCC Workshops
Learn how recipients are selected and how can an applicant improve his/her chances of being recommended. Attendance at a workshop is encouraged, but not required.

Summer 2020 Workshops will take place online. Artists from any county are invited to join any workshop, but for convenience workshops are also being organized by county to support specific questions from area artists.

This year, the Miami Herald is including both virtual and live offerings in the Best Bets for performances, exhibitions and events between Sept. 27 and Dec. 31, 2020. The special Season of the Arts issue of Tropical Sunday will publish Sept. 27. Full calendars will not be included and will only feature highlights.
