Arts groups, cultural organizations, community nonprofit organizations, individual artists and artist collectives are invited to attend this free workshop about Miami-Dade County’s cultural grants programs. Learn how to apply for arts funding and which grants programs may be the right fit for your cultural project.
Cultural Affairs staff will provide information about the competitive funding opportunities for nonprofit arts groups and artists as well as other helpful resources available for the cultural community.
Art projects that are especially encouraged include those:
- with a strong community involvement;
- with an outreach component that promotes inclusion and equitable access to the arts;
- with a focus on delivering cultural services to underserved populations and/or under-resourced neighborhoods;
- that have the potential to generate tourism;
- that are particularly sensitive to the needs of indigenous cultural activities;
- that are encouraging the preservation of heritage, traditions and culture: and,
- where social service organizations and cultural groups are developing collaborative intervention projects using the arts.
There will be an interactive Q & A session following the workshop presentation. Questions will be addressed in English, Spanish, or Haitian Creole. ADA/accessible accommodations are available.

The Community Grants program supports cultural programs, projects and events, such as fairs, parades and neighborhood festivals. The program funds arts projects with strong community involvement and/or outreach component and is particularly sensitive to the needs of indigenous cultural neighborhood activities and projects encouraging the preservation of heritage, traditions and culture, as well as social service organizations and cultural groups developing collaborative intervention projects using the arts.

Innovation Fund Grants to be Released in February 2024
The Children’s Trust is seeking to fund multiple innovative projects, for up to $1,000,000, that test new ideas that address existing community needs and have not been previously implemented in our community. Miami Emerging Arts Leaders – Tuesday, January 23, 2024
What is a budget? Why is it important and how is one created? Join the Miami Emerging Arts Leaders and budgeting expert John Safranek for a deep dive into the basics of budgeting for nonprofit cultural organizations. John will layout the important aspects of creating a yearly operating budget. The presentation will also explore other types of budgets that nonprofit administrators need to be familiar with; such as, capital budgets, and grant program budgets.
John Safranek has spent the last 25+ years in the nonprofit cultural arts space as a senior level executive providing strategic leadership to nonprofit cultural institutions. He has worked with some of the largest cultural organizations in South Florida such as the Norton Museum of Art, the Pérez Art Museum Miami, National YoungArts Foundation, and Miami City Ballet. As a consultant, he focuses on financial and operational management in museums and other cultural organizations.
All are welcome and the session will be followed by a Q&A.
