North Miami Brings Together National Night Out and Back-to-School Block Party for One Unforgettable Community Celebration

First-ever combined event supports families, strengthens community partnerships, and celebrates the City’s Centennial with a “Through the Decades” theme.

NORTH MIAMI, FL (July 31, 2026)

For the first time, the City of North Miami and the North Miami Police Department are combining two of the City’s most anticipated annual events into one exciting community celebration. Residents are invited to attend the National Night Out and Back-to-School Block Party: Through the Decades on Tuesday, August 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. at MOCA Plaza, 770 NE 125th Street, North Miami, FL 33161.

As part of North Miami’s Centennial celebration, this year’s event embraces the theme “Through the Decades,” inviting families to take a trip through time while celebrating the City’s rich history and bright future. Guests are encouraged to join the fun by dressing in attire inspired by their favorite decade, from the roaring ’20s and groovy ’70s to the colorful ’80s, ’90s, and beyond.

“There’s nothing more important than investing in our families and our children,” said Mayor Alix Desulme, Ed.D. “By combining these two events for the first time, we’re creating a celebration that supports students, brings neighbors together, and showcases the pride we have in our North Miami community.”

“This event represents what North Miami is all about: neighbors coming together, supporting our children, and building stronger relationships that make our community safer and more connected,” said Chief Cherise G. Gause, North Miami Police Department. “Having one celebration produces an experience that not only prepares students for the school year but also strengthens the partnerships that help our community thrive.”

Families can enjoy live entertainment, community resources, family-friendly activities, and free backpacks and school supplies while supplies last. North Miami residents receive priority, and children must be present with an adult to receive a backpack.

Residents should bring proof of residency, such as a valid Florida driver’s license or other acceptable identification. Children must be present with an adult to receive a free backpack.

National Night Out is an annual nationwide campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. By pairing it with the City’s Back-to-School Block Party during North Miami’s Centennial year, the City is expanding its commitment to public safety, youth engagement, and community pride.

Families are encouraged to register in advance
