North Miami Councilwoman Mary Estimé-Irvin to Host 7th Annual Soup Joumou Celebration • North Miami, FL

NORTH MIAMI, FL (December 29, 2025)

North Miami Councilwoman Mary Estimé-Irvin will host the 7th Annual Soup Joumou Celebration on Thursday, January 1, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Joe Celestin Community Center in celebration of Haitian culture, history, and resilience. Soup Joumou, a traditional Haitian dish that symbolizes freedom and independence, is shared annually on New Year’s Day to commemorate Haiti’s independence in 1804. The main purpose of the annual celebration is to unite the community through this cultural tradition and to foster pride, unity, and reflection.

“As North Miami approaches its 2026 Centennial, this year’s Soup Joumou celebration takes on an even greater significance as we also commemorate 222 years of independence for Haiti, a homeland for many of our residents,” said Councilwoman Mary Estimé‑Irvin. “For the Haitian community, Soup Joumou is not only a symbol of freedom and resilience, but also a cherished tradition that unites us in the spirit of togetherness. As we enter our centennial year, I am immensely proud to honor a heritage that embodies the diversity, strength, and shared values that define North Miami.”

This event invites residents to enjoy free Soup Joumou while they connect with neighbors and local leadership in a welcoming environment. The 7th Annual Soup Joumou Celebration is presented by the Office of Councilwoman Mary Estimé-Irvin, District 3, with support from the City of North Miami.
