October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Miami-Dade County is breaking that silence with the From Silence to Strength Domestic Violence Awareness Summit, a powerful half-day gathering of survivors, advocates, service providers and community leaders dedicated to healing, education and action.

The summit—hosted by the Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) — will offer an open and courageous space where stories are shared, resources are unveiled and commitments to end abuse are renewed.

At the heart of the event is a candid Heart-to-Heart: Breaking the Silence with Supa Cindy, the beloved South Florida radio icon, whose personal journey from domestic violence survivor to outspoken advocate has inspired thousands. After decades of uplifting others with her voice on 99 Jamz, she is now using her own story of survival to shine a light on the hidden struggles faced by too many and to prove that resilience and renewal are possible.

“Domestic violence is not just a private issue—it’s a community crisis that requires a community solution,” said Supa Cindy. “I’m honored to join this summit in creating the space for survivors to be heard, for neighbors to learn, and for all of us to be part of the solution.”

Attendees will take part in breakout sessions led by experts covering topics like recognizing the signs of abuse, navigating the legal system, and building healthy, violence-free futures. A community resource fair will connect participants with organizations offering legal aid, counseling, shelter and other vital services.

The From Silence to Strength Summit is FREE and open to the public, with materials and resources available in English, Spanish and Creole.
