STATEMENT: Senate Democratic Leader Lauren Book Responds to Menstrual Hygiene Products Legislation Signed Into Law

Tallahassee —

Today, the Governor signed HB 389 – Menstrual Hygiene Products in Public Schools, allowing school districts to make period products available at schools, at no charge. Senate Democratic Leader Lauren Book (D-Davie), who sponsored the bill on the Senate side, shared this statement:

“A period should end a sentence, not an education — yet one in four girls report missing school because they don’t have access to basic health and hygiene products. Schools already provide necessary sanitary equipment in bathrooms such as toilet paper, soap, and paper towels – and now, because of our years-long fight, menstrual hygiene products will be no different. This is a major win for Florida students.”
