Benchmarks set for code-related approval of building products

The Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources, Product Control Section is one of the most trusted evaluation agencies for manufacturers to receive construction product approval that is internationally recognized for meeting some of the most stringent building codes in the country.

The benefits of these services for manufacturers are numerous. Products that receive a Notice of Acceptance (NOA) (product approval) from Miami-Dade County must meet the requirements for Florida’s High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ), with building codes designed to withstand winds of up to 175 miles-per-hour (three-second gust) for typical buildings and structures. The high standards are the foundation upon which Miami-Dade County has gained a national reputation as creating the benchmark for code-related approval of building systems and components—a distinction that is internationally recognized.

Going through RER’s Board and Code Administration’s approval process offers these benefits for manufacturers:

  • In-house review of product by experts in the Product Control Section
  • A streamlined review process
  • Your product is approved for the Florida HVHZ
  • Market your product globally in countries that recognize Miami-Dade’s NOA
  • RER offers one-time approvals for specialty products
  • Manufacturers receive a quality assurance service for products for the entire period of approval
  • Product NOA’s can be used when applying for optional State of Florida approval

The Product Control Section issues the approval of building construction materials, products and systems used for the protection of a building’s envelope, to include windows, exterior glazing, wall cladding, roofing, exterior doors, shutters and more.

To consult with our staff, call 786-315-2590 or visit the Product Control Section’s website.
