West Palm Beach City Commission Meeting and Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Approvals and Decisions

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (DATE) – Below is a summary of the approvals and decisions made by the City Commission meeting on Monday, May 1, 2023.

MAYOR’S OFFICE – Mayor Keith A. James presented two proclamations. Mayor James proclaimed National Small Business Week as Monday, May 1, through Sunday, May 7, 2023. Mayor James also proclaimed the week of Sunday, May 7 through Saturday, May 13, 2023 as Gulfstream Goodwill Industries Week. Mayor James also mentioned the April proclamation of April as National Arab American Heritage Month, which was presented to the National Arab American Foundation by City Commission President Shalonda Warren on April 19.

Approved a resolution approving a project funding interlocal agreement between the City of West Palm Beach and West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority for the purchase of electric equipment for exclusive use by the Police Department in the entertainment District.

CITY ATTORNEY –  Approved two resolutions authorizing assessment of liens for $16,018.78 for unpaid water service, sewer service and storm water charges for the month of February, 2023 and $15,128.30 for unpaid fees in November 2022; approved a resolution waiving a potential conflict of interest relating to Greenberg Traurig, P.A.’s representation of the Town if Palm Beach in connection with negotiation a new potable water supply agreement and it’s representation of the City in unrelated matters.

COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY – Approved a resolution approving a scholarship agreement between the City of West Palm Beach and the Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Center for Urban Environmental Solutions for “FAU CUES 50th Anniversary” to be held May 17, 2023.

DEVELOPMENT SERVICES – Approved a resolution, after a public hearing, to approve a major planned development amendment to the CityPlace Commercial Planned Development (CPD) amending the Rosemary Square Core Development Regulations relating to artificial turf and the addition of Minority/Women Business Enterprise firm participation, minimum office parking requirements and demolition timing.

HOUSING and COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT – Approved a resolution declaring the property at 1400 Henrietta Avenue as surplus and authorizing the disposition of property through negotiations of conveyance to the West Palm Beach Housing Authority.

PARKS and RECREATION – Approved a resolution approving an interlocal agreement with Palm Beach County for participation in the 2023-2026 Drowning Prevention Coalition’s Learn to Swim Voucher Program, with classes to be offered at the Warren Hawkins Aquatic Center at Gaines Park;  approved a resolution declaring about 1.6 acres at Dreher Park as surplus and to negotiation a lease for use of the property with the Boys and Girls Club of Palm Beach County, Inc.

Approved a resolution approving a grant agreement with Nora Holdings LLC for the construction of utility and streetscape improvements along Railroad Avenue between 7th Street and 11th Street.
