Director’s Message: The New Normal – Arts, Culture and More!

Dear Colleagues,

This week, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez authorized the limited re-opening of parts of the County’s economy.  I am proud to report that Mayor Gimenez has included a section of strict guidelines for Arts & Culture – only permitting the opening of museums and public gardens, if and when they are ready.

The New Normal Guidelines

You can see the entire set of requirements at  www.miamidade.gov/newnormal  – including the section on Arts & Culture.  Mayor Gimenez recognizes that our cultural community is essential to help re-start Miami-Dade County’s economy. The inclusion of the arts in this first phase of re-opening is an important affirmation the arts and culture sector has an essential role in our economy and in the quality of life of our children, families and eventually, our visitors. The New Normal guidelines were developed in close consultation with medical and health professionals to ensure that this phased-in approach adheres rigorously to their guidance. Please stay tuned and check the web link as this initial reopening plan will continue to be updated, as necessary.

Emergency Orders Remain in Effect Until Lifted

Please be advised that except for museums and gardens, the rest of the cultural community remains closed at this time.  The Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs will continue to work with you and support you during this crisis.  We look forward to the time when it is safe and appropriate to announce the next phase of reactivating more of our cultural life. Stay informed here:  http://www.miamidade.gov/coronavirus.

Stay socially distanced and healthy!
