North Miami Vice Mayor hosts free hurricane supplies distribution tonight in advance of a flood information workshop
June 15, 2023
As the 2023 hurricane season gets underway, the City of North Miami Vice Mayor Mary Estimé-Irvin wants to help keep residents safe and assist with hurricane essentials. As a result, Vice Mayor Estimé-Irvin is hosting a free hurricane supplies drive through distribution on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Griffing Park, 12220 Griffing Blvd, North Miami, FL 33161, where residents will receive cases of water, unperishable food, a flashlight, and a plethora of hurricane preparation information.
“We understand that preparing for hurricane season can be overwhelming and a daunting task,” Estimé-Irvin explained. “We just want to provide a little relief and help residents through the preparation process.”
Immediately following the hurricane supplies distribution event, the North Miami Building Department will host its second Flood Information Workshop from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at the Joe Celestine Community Center, 1525 NW 135 St, North Miami, FL 33167. It will allow attendees to discover how the city’s rating with the National Flood Insurance Program helps North Miami residents receive a 20% discount on their flood insurance policies for properties in the Special Flood Hazard Area and a 1O% discount savings for properties outside the Special Flood Hazard Area. It will also provide the latest information on FEMA guidelines and updates to the flood ordinance and how these guidelines can help in the protection of life and property. Homeowners, business owners and contractors alike can also pick up hurricane information in preparation for hurricane season and learn about grant opportunities to assist with related upgrades.
