City of WPB Street Sweeper in action

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – The City of West Palm Beach Stormwater Division sweeps over twelve thousand miles of our roads annually, enhancing public health and safety. Street sweeping reduces the presence of debris, glass, and other potentially hazardous material on our city roadways. It prevents tons of debris from entering the stormwater system and water bodies, improving water quality.

Street sweeping helps maintain clear lines of sight, prevents accidents, and promotes a cleaner and safer pedestrian environment.

The sweeper vehicle gives the operator a center review of the roadway, thus giving the operator a better judgment on how many passes are needed to effectively clean debris from the road.

Our Street Sweeping Team is part of the City of West Palm Beach Stormwater Operations & Canals Maintenance division of the Department of Public Utilities.  The division is responsible for capturing and conveying drainage runoff to canals, cleaning and inspecting stormwater drains to remove trash and pollutants, and monitoring and responding to illicit discharges into waterways. Our stormwater drainage system also protects floods by allowing rain to flow appropriately during rain events, reducing risk to our citizens and their property.

To report an illicit discharge to the City’s stormwater system, call (561) 822-2185. To submit a stormwater maintenance request, please call (561) 822-2210 (TTY 800 955-8771). For information about the City of West Palm Beach, please visit https://www.wpb.org/.
